How is Spotify’s Top 10 Global Artist chart created? Although the official formula has not been publicly released, Spotify says the viral charts capture the songs gaining “the most buzz” on the platform.

What’s the chart looking like this week?

Chart placement is based on a few factors, including:

• If a song has recently risen in plays
• How often people share the song
• How many people recently discovered the song

Here’s a look at the home countries of the Top 10 artists this week, from February 13-February 19.

Although the Top 10 Artists are scattered across the world, four of those artists hail from the United States — more than any other country. This shows the continued influence of the U.S. music industry while also highlighting the international diversity of artists connecting with huge streaming audiences.

The Top 10 Artists cover a vast range of genres, including Latin trap, pop, hip-hop, R&B, and soul. Mainstream listening habits are always shifting, and this current trend encourages artists from different musical and cultural backgrounds to aim for the top of the charts.

Bad Bunny has been on Top Artists Global the longest consecutively, at 227 weeks straight.

Here we can see the other veterans who have topped the charts for 227 weeks, comprising Drake, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, and Arijit Singh.

Olivia Dean, who won Best New Artist at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, has established herself as a breakout star, currently solidifying 26 weeks on the Spotify chart.

Bad Bunny holds the most spots on Top Songs Global. “DtMF” is the highest at #1, and it boasts a consecutive streak of 59 weeks on the chart.

After Bad Bunny’s performance at the February 8 Super Bowl LX halftime show, there is a visible spike in his weekly Spotify streams — especially for “DtMF,” which gained 50 million streams from the week of February 5 to the week of February 12.

Although the above shows Spotify’s Top Artists by monthly listeners, this is not the main metric for determining their spot on the charts.

An artist may have a large overall listener base but rank lower if their current releases don’t generate enough concentrated engagement, which ranges from streams, sales, and radio airplay.

As the week draws to a close, music industry giants will definitely be measuring the fluctuating levels of interest in Bad Bunny’s discography, and keeping an eye on broad listener and fanbase engagement for these Global Top 10 Artists.
