Anna, Chloe and the Co-chairs: The faces, and dresses, behind this year’s MET Gala — 6:04 p.m. EDT
As the carpet rolls out, cameras flash and the stars stun in their looks, you may be wondering: Who has the authority to represent Vogue and put this whole spectacle together in the first place?
That authority belongs to Vogue’s Global Editorial Director Anna Wintour, who arrived at this year’s gala in a stunning turquoise, art-deco-inspired feathered cape. She has been involved with the event since 1995, transforming the event from a local charity dinner into a global pop culture phenomenon.
Eyes are also turned towards Chloe Malle, the new head of editorial content at American Vogue, since Wintour’s stepping down in June 2025. This is Malle’s first gala in her new role, and she stunned in a mango gown inspired by Frederic Leighton’s 1895 “Flaming June” painting.
And, finally, the long list of celebrity co-chairs, which includes Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, to name a few. There is also a gala host committee, which is led by Zoe Kravitz and creative director of Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello. Honorary sponsors for the event are Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos, which has garnered a lot of negative opinions online, and even sparked a protest in the Meatpacking District.
The 2026 Met Gala opens with a musical performance — 6:08 p.m. EDT
The cameras are flashing and the live stream is on!
This year’s spectacle opened with a musical performance by Broadway star Joshua Henry, who performed a rendition of Whitney Houston’s famous “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” accompanied by a choir, dancers and band.
Famous for his roles in showstopping musicals, such as Carousel and Hamilton, Henry wore a red suit to set a theatrical mood to begin the procession, starting it off on many high notes. I’m not music guru, but I think I heard some high Es in there.
Nicole Kidman and Sunday Rose interview with Vogue on the carpet — 6:13 p.m. EDT
In Vogue’s YouTube live stream of the event, one of this year’s Met Gala co-chairs, Nicole Kidman, and her daughter, Sunday Rose, interviewed with live stream co-host La La Anthony.
“For me, fashion is art, and I wanted something red because I wanted to embrace the way in which red has been used in art through the years. I feel its a strong symbol of love, passion, vitality, power and motherhood,” Kidman said, donning a shimmering red gown.
Sunday Rose, who is celebrating her first gala, said she wanted to communicate a message of blooming with her look. And with her first Met Gala at just 17 years old, she is well on her way to becoming a cultural icon.
Sinéad Burke makes a statement at this year’s gala — 6:21 p.m. EDT
Irish writer, academic, and disability activist Sinéad Burke, who is the founder and CEO of Tilting the Lens, a strategic accessibility consultancy, showed up to this year’s gala wearing a black feather-like gown with flowing trains on her sleeves.
Burke said in an interview on Vogue’s livestream of the event that her consultancy has been working with the costume institute on a number of initiatives in regards to the exhibition.
“Fashion is art because of embodiment. When we wear a garment on our body, different kinds of bodies. That is what makes it art,” Burke said.
In this year’s exhibition, there is an entire section called The Disabled Body, which includes the work of disabled designers, such as Suganda Gupta and Helen Cookman, on disabled mannequins to make the Met Gala more accessible.

‘Saturday Night Live’s’ Marcelo Hernandez walks the carpet with his girlfriend Ana — 6:41 p.m. EDT
In a Thom Browne suit, comedian Marcelo Hernandez walked the carpet in his Met Gala debut. His girlfriend, Ana Amelia Batlle Cabral, is wearing a gown by Oscar de la Renta.
“It’s our first time. We’re like little kids,” Hernandez said in an interview with Anthony.
Hernandez said he is wearing Dominican stones along his suit, a nod to his roots. Hernandez is one of many Latino celebrities expected at this event, among others such as Bad Bunny, Cardi B and Rauw Alejandro.
Katy Perry hits the carpet in an extra-terrestrial look — 6:50 p.m. EDT
Who is that behind the mask? Oh, that’s just Katy Perry.
Wearing custom Stella McCartney, Perry is striking an ultramodern pose on tonight’s carpet. Perry is wearing a sleek, white gown with gloves to match topped off with a white headpiece and a silver mask.
Through the years, Perry has been known for making statements on the Met Gala carpet, from dressing as a chandelier for the 2019 carpet and made a quick change to a burger for the 2019 afterparty. This year, she’s a futuristic fencer. To all the food fans out there, we are sorry to disappoint.
