Nominations for the 2025 Tony Awards have been announced live today, celebrating a remarkable year in Broadway with 43 productions debuted throughout the 2024-2025 Broadway season. 14 new musicals, 14 new plays, and 14 revivals. That’s a lot for Broadway; only 36 productions were eligible last season. 42 of those productions are eligible for the Tonys. Stay tuned to see this year’s list of nominees below.
Select marquee categories were unveiled at 8:30 a.m. ET on CBS Mornings, with the rest announced by Tony winning actors Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce at 9:00 a.m. on the Tony Awards Youtube channel.

Things to Look Out For
“Maybe Happy Endings” and “Dead Outlaw” are slated to be frontrunners for the Best Musical category, both receiving rave reviews throughout the season, as well as doing well at previous theatre awards shows this season. “John Proctor is the Villain” and “Oh, Mary!” are the shows to look out for on the play side.
Want to see who comes out on top? The 78th Tony Awards ceremony is planned for June 8 at Radio City Musical Hall, hosted by past Tony winner and star of the “Wicked” movie Cynthia Erivo.

This was an amazing year for Broadway, which means the Tonys are ultra-competitive this season.
One of the biggest upsets from this list of nominations is Helen J. Shen, the leading actress in 10-time nominated musical “Maybe Happy Ending”.
Many fans were also expecting for the musical “Real Women Have Curves” to walk away with more nominations – it receiving only two, Best Original Score and Best Actress in a Featured Role with Justina Machado.
This year also saw a lot of “star-studded” casts, with big name celebrities bringing in astronomical ticket sales for shows, and yet many — such as Denzel Washington for “Othello” — were left off the list.
Standouts and Sweeps — 9:31 a.m.
In a three-way tie, the shows with the most nominations are “Maybe Happy Ending,” “Death Becomes Her” and “Buena Vista Social Club” — with 10 nominations each.
Nominations Live NOW on the Tony Awards Youtube Channel — 9:05 a.m.
An Extra Nomination for Leading Men — 8:45 a.m.
There were six nominations in the Leading Actor in a Musical category compared to the usual five nominations, meaning there is most likely a tie somewhere in this category.
It is surprising that the Leading Actress category did not also receive an extra nomination with how competitive that category was slated to be.
Audra McDonald Breaking Records — 8:35 a.m.

With her nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, Audra McDonald has become the most nominated performer ever.
This is her 11th nomination.
