SpaceX, Elon Musk’s private space company, is aiming to launch a GPS III-9 satellite into mid-Earth orbit from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
This satellite is designed by Lockheed Martin and will become part of the Global Positioning System operated by U.S. Space Force and used by the military, apps, and consumer technologies in the U.S.
SpaceX is using the Falcon 9 for the mission, a one-of-a-kind reusable rocket that separates into two after launch, with one part delivering the satellite to outer space, and the other hopefully returning to a launchpad on Earth.
